Of course one of the main perks of island life is our access to the sea, but not all islanders get to enjoy the open water. Local charity Wetwheels Jersey is trying to change that with its motto of ‘Barrier-free boating for all disabled people’.
Livingroom has agreed to support Wetwheels with a donation of £1,500 which will pay for three outings on the boat. The first of the trips happened on June 23rd 2021 as some of the residents of St. Ewolds care home took to the high seas.
The six residents who went out on the boat thoroughly enjoyed themselves and got to enjoy skippering the boat as well as being passengers. Jean’s request to go even faster while driving proves that these ladies have a huge sense of adventure.
We were delighted to offer the ladies the opportunity to get out on the boat and want to thank the Wetwheels team for all they do to make the sea more accessible for our community.
Wetwheels Jersey launched in 2013 and uses a specially modified boat that is fully accessible to all, opening up boating opportunities for islanders who otherwise may not have been able to enjoy the sea.
