We recently sold a beautiful apartment in Guernsey and the happy new owners have been enjoying their new home. You can imagine how surprised they were when they saw their home advertised for rent on a Facebook page ‘Guernsey Properties - For Rent’, posted by a supposed individual as named on the post. This individual had copied photos from a previous sales listing and created a post to scam potential tenants until the owner of the actual property reported the post and demanded it was removed immediately.
It is safe to say this is not the first time this has happened and is an enormous worry for anyone using similar groups on social media without administrative controls.
As you can see, there were 12 comments and 7 likes on the post asking for people to book an appointment and potentially be persuaded to part with a month’s rent to secure the property.
We appreciate that rental properties are scarce at present and people will look at all avenues to secure a tenancy, but please ONLY use an accredited agent where you do not have to gamble with your valued savings.
