THE JERSEY EXPAT EXPERIENCE

Thursday, 16 December 2021

Is Jersey a good place to move to?

It’s a question we hear often from prospective island residents beginning their property search with Livingroom, and of course we always tell them it is.
Our team absolutely love Jersey and we’re proud to convince others of its beauty, security and excellent work/life balance.

Now, the expat community has spoken about the merits of living here, and the results are emphatic!

HSBC conducted its annual Expat Explorer Survey in April and May of this year and Jersey came 6th overall in the 2021 league table for expat living. The survey gathers the views of expats living in 46 countries and territories around the world and, this year, features the views of 20,460 expats.

The survey is great news for the Channel Islands as Guernsey came 5th in the table, with the islands only being beaten by a top four of (in order) Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates.

So what makes Jersey so great? The island ranked second in HSBC’s ‘aspiring’ metric, which relates to personal finances.

Clearly, expats who have settled here feel that living in Jersey is conducive to growing and preserving their wealth. This is probably a consequence not only of the island’s established tax system, but also the breadth of job opportunities here.

The lifestyle factors on offer here in Jersey are also a huge draw. The amazing beaches are well-known, but many don’t realise that Jersey offers a wonderful range of outdoor activities perfect for those who want to live active lifestyles.

When our team are having conversations with prospective residents one of the misconceptions they have to debunk is that Jersey is behind the times. That’s simply not true; the island is a vibrant cosmopolitan location and that’s backed up by an increasingly young expat community who enjoy the incredible food scene, varied cultural events and lively nightlife.

Relocating can cause a change in outlook and can improve happiness – the survey notes that two thirds of expats report a better quality of life since relocating – and Jersey is the perfect place to make a new start and enjoy a different pace of life.

If you think relocating to Jersey could be the right move for you, get in touch with our expert team to learn everything you need to know about moving to the island. We’d love to show you round!
